ACORN is BIG. It is described on Wikipedia:

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is a community-based organization in the USA that advocates for low- and moderate-income families by working on neighborhood safety, voter registration, health care, affordable housing, and other social issues. ACORN has over 400,000 members and more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in over 100 cities across the United States,[1] as well as in Argentina, Canada, Mexico, and Peru.

The Washington Examiner wrote on May 5, 2009, in an article, ACORN got $53 million in federal funds since 94, now eligible for up to $8 billion more:

The economic stimulus bill enacted in February contains $3 billion that the non-profit activist group known more formally as the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now could receive, and 2010 federal budget contains another $5.5 billion that could also find its way into the group’s coffers.

Senate Bill Passes - Veteran ABC Newscaster Charles Gibson None the Wiser September 15, 4:55 PM

As reported by Don Blumer at NewsBusters, when Charles Gibson appeared on the Wade and Roma show on 890 WLS Radio in Chicago this morning, co-host Don Wade posed the following question to Gibson:

The two quotes below were taken directly from NewsBusters:

Okay, here’s my news question. A Senate bill yesterday passes, cutting off funds to this group called ACORN. Now, we got that bill passed and we have the embarrassing video of ACORN staffers giving tax advice on how to set up a brothel with 13-year-old hookers. It has everything you could want – corruption and sleazy action at tax-funded organizations and it’s got government ties. But nobody’s covering that story. Why?

Charles Gibson’s incredible reply:

HAHAHAHAHA. HEHEHE. I didn’t even know about it. Um. So, you’ve got me at a loss. I don’t know. Uh. Uh. But my goodness, if it’s got everything including sleaziness in it, we should talk about it this morning.

Some have accused the National Media of bias, but it really does not matter. The blogs are so powerful in the US that they can reach a large segment of the population. Everyone can have their say, and everyone can keep informed.

ACORN responded on its official website (9/12/09) to the scandal with this statement:

The relentless attacks on ACORN’s members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented.  An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a “news” agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working families in the country.  It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction.  It is clear they’ve had these tapes for months.

ACORN has threatened to sue. If they do sue, they will need to provide financial details of the organization. Hot Air thought it would be hard for ACORN to pursue litigation. This story is not over!
