(March 16th update at bottom of this article.)
The required oaths in Freemasonry appear to be gruesome. Although these oaths
may terrify some members, they may be neither legally nor morally binding.

Freemasonry rolls up its trousers in public

For the first time, a Mason has written openly about the organisation’s obscure rituals and their impact. Dr Robert Lomas explains why he’s lifted the lid on his experiences “Get your clothes off . . . and put your watch and rings in that tray.” “Everything?” I asked. “Is this some sort of ritual naked mugging?” “No,” he said, his expression totally serious. “You can keep your underpants on.” |
From another source, “Evangelical Truth”: This photograph shows a Freemason ready for his oath. Here is the full article, which appears to be very critical.
Secrets And Mysteries Of The Freemasons
In case you missed the hangman’s noose around the mason’s neck in the photo, this is an excerpt from a Dec. 20, 2005 article in The Zambezi Times by Sikota Wina
The candidate removes his outer clothing until he stands in socks, his left shoe, trousers and shirt only. His shirt is unbuttoned to reveal his left breast, his right sleeve is rolled up to reveal the elbow, his left trouser leg is rolled up above the knee. A hangman’s noose is then placed around his neck, the end of the rope hanging down behind him. He is blindfolded as he enters the Lodge. |

IS THE MASONIC OATH ILLEGAL AND AGAINST THE PRINCIPLES OF CHRISTIANITY?
The Masonic Response: Article
June 1983 in the Masonic Trowel
“That oaths are permissible to Christians is shown by the example of Our Lord (Mat. 26:63) and of Paul; (11 Cor. 1:23; Gal. 1:20) and even God Himself (Heb. 6:13-18). Consequently when Christ said “Swear not at all” (Mat. 5:34), He was laying down the principle that the Christian must not have two standards of truth, but that his ordinary speech must be as sacredly true as his oath. In the kingdom of God, where the principles hold sway, oaths become unnecessary.” |

What is So Bad About Being a Mason?
article by Ed Decker, Saints Alive
How is Jesus glorified by this gruesome nonsense? Where is the gentle Savior in the concept of having one’s tongue ripped out by its roots? The Second degree involves a solemn oath to have “your breast torn open and your heart plucked out…” third degree: to have “your body severed in two and your bowels taken thence…” and seventh degree: to have your “skull smote off and …brains exposed to the meridian sun…” |

How to be RELEASED FROM YOUR Masonic OATH
Fellow Craft Degree: “..my left breast torn open, my heart and vitals taken thence, and with my body given as a prey to the vultures of the air, should I ever knowingly, or willfully, violate this, my solemn Obligation of a Fellow Craft.”; As stated in the beginning, a Masonic oath is binding, only if you allow it to be. That is your choice. Many members of the Order will tell you how awful it would be for you to betray the oaths you have taken. The Written Word of God tells you how sinful it is that they were ever taken in the first place. Now you have to ask yourself, who is right - the members of the lodge who are trying to lay a guilt trip on you, or God, who only wants you to confess your sin so that Jesus Christ may truly become your Lord and Savior? |
I invite our Barbadian churches to comment on this last paragraph.

UPDATE March 16, 2008: Soldier found dead after severe Freemason hazing - Today, more than two years after death, same Knights Templar Masonic group still active.
An autopsy revealed injuries suffered by a Freemason beaten with wooden paddles in a Masonic initiation ceremony. The conclusion was that the Templar Commandery (Freemasons) were not responsible for the soldier’s death, but his mother Diana Wilder is quoted as saying, “If this is the last thing I do, I’m going to find out what happened.” Here is the timeline of the incident.Masonic paddles are currently available for purchase on the internet. In America paddles of this type are associated with either BDSM or corporal punishment in schools.

Above image showing unrelated hazing is a link to: World Corporate Punishment Research
What is BDSM ? Bondage and Discipline (B&D) = BD, Dominance and Submission (D/s,) = DS, Sadism and Masochism, Sadomasochism (S/M, S&M) = SM. By putting together all of the abbreviations in a mathematical type formula, we get BD+DS+SM = BDSM. |
The context of the use of the paddles in this Masonic hazing suggests that it was not a form of corporal punishment. What was the intended outcome of the paddling? Was this ceremony designed to reinforce the oaths? Do the words bondage, dominance and submission apply?
It is notable that the Knights Templar Masonic group implicated in the incident remains active. (See link below)

MANNHEIM, Germany — More than two years after a hazing initiation in which Army soldiers were paddled on their buttocks, the Knights Templar Masonic group that was implicated in the incident remains active, a top Knights Templar official said. |

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThe oaths in Freemasonry are emblematic of the seriousness with which these oaths are taken. They are not imposed from without, but by the oath taker. No one’s tongue is pulled out. If you read the entire discussion by Dr. Lomas, you will get the actual application. It’s much the same as saying “If I’m lying, may I be struck by lightning.”
Also, Freemasonry is not a religion. No creed is required of members. Each person is allowed his own belief. There are Muslims, Christians, and Hindus in lodges.
Please tell the whole truth, not selective bits.
Thanks for your valued contribution, Steve. You state that these are serious oaths. I have also heard that the penalties in these oaths are similar to saying: “Cross my heart and hope to die.”
While I get the point that these oaths are serious, I am concerned that they might strike terror into the hearts of some and create a situation of human bondage.
Clarification: What I mean by “bondage” is a person falling under an outside influence that is so powerful that it overcomes the free will of that person.
I am using “human bondage” in the sense of giving up one’s individual free will and self-determination to be governed by the dictates of others.
[…] The concern is that police who take “blood-curdling oaths” and “indulge in strange rituals” may diminish public confidence in the force. There is concern about oaths of loyalty affecting the ability of an officer to act impartially. Our previous post examines these gruesome oaths. […]
Freemasonry is very old and is stuck in a time warp. In medievel times it was not unusual for a binding obligation to carry physical penalties and Masonry followed the tridition of the day. This has remained part of the ritual which a candidate now goes through. The physical penalties were removed from the obligation many years ago. In the middle ages signs or recognition were used as we would use a cirtificate today. Then few could read and it was easier to prove your skill level with a special hand shake than spend days carving a stone. Also mason had trade secrets which needed to be safeguarded. That is why todays freemasons take an obligation which sounds out of place now.
Today anyone with access to the Internet can find anything about freemasonry including the modes of recognition.
The power of life and death is in the tongue. Most men/women who join the Masonic lodge are motivated, by greed, the need to get ahead, the ambition to be exalted and given the advantage or edge over precieved competitors as well as gain certain amount of wealth in the shortest amount of time.
Any good Mason would tell you the best to place to hide anything is in the open, in fact the Mason’s greatest delight is that his secret is right in front of you and you are unable to see it.
As it stands it is the Christian’s word against them but time is longer than twine and in time we all shall know as we are known.
I strongly believe that religious beliefs are and should be a very personal thing; I didn’t always think this way as the then influence of the church and subsequent to that, the Scottish Mechanic Lodge/Rosicrucian connection in some way militated against or rather influenced my thought processes at the time.
However, after making contact with, an subscribing to an awareness movement in the US, I was able to mould and shape my psyche/persona in a way in which I would say is exclusively mine. I would like to describe it as finding oneself. Consequently, as a result of this, I no longer am affiliated to any organisation but pray and supplicate in the privacy of my own home.
Whatever good Freemasonry has exhibited, (and there obviously is some good about it), I think persons need more than ever to take a step back and question certain policies and practices of the movement;especially in the light of the sustained negative fallout of the satanic connection. It can’t be no accident or coincidence that notwithstanding all world leaders are knights or masons yet there is a proliferation of so much human suffering in the form of wars, starvation, torture and mutilations etc all around the globe.
This has to be the work of a sinister and hidden force directing these so-called ‘good’ organisations such as freemasonry. And if the controller is bad, then it stands to reason that the follower is similarly bad; no matter what good things are done in between. It reminds of the famous biblical statement: ‘the blind leading the blind’. St. Paul in another part of the bible alluded to ’spiritual wickedness in high places’.
All freemasons and other kindred lodge members need more than ever to try to understand exactly who they are following; in short, who is pulling the strings of their society. When I pray to God, that is a direct connection between myself and the Creator but when I submit to the rituals and prayers of another organisation, then I can’t be sure who I am submitting myself too.
That to me is the crux of the matter.

The autopsy report on the Serviceman stated that the blunt force trauma from being paddled was non contributory to his death - he was alcohol poiseoned. That being said - It must only be a tradition within Black or Prince Hall organizations to use hazing tactics. Neither roughness nor frivolity is tolerated within caucasion Masonic organizations - we have a zero tolererance for that kind of nonsense.
