Secrecy

BARBADOS 27 April, 2003. (Updated 10/15/07)
A SHROUD OF SECRECY HANGS OVER FATE OF 1,000+ ACRES OF PRIME REAL ESTATE

These lands form part of the property of Kingsland Estates Ltd. a private, family-owned company formed in 1958.

Kingsland owns approximately 1,020 acres real estate on or near the main A.B.C. Industrial Access Highway in Barbados, approximately 12 acres on the South of the island & 2 acres beachfront on South Coast.

A major precedent-setting high court decision has gone unnoticed and unreported by the Barbados press, who were apparently not present when the decision was made, and it seems that they were not briefed by the lawyers.

This will probably be the last case to go to Privy Council, since Parliament hastily met to abolish this avenue of appeal, to be replaced by a Caribbean Court of Justice, which does not yet exist. Surprisingly, the Barbadian press are not showing much interest.
