Barbados Advocate, 11/2/2009: The Whitepark court has issues

Are lawyers in Barbados taking the adage that says “a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client” too far? It has almost been a month since the new Supreme Court building at Whitepark has been opened and as far as I am aware there has been no official complaint from the Bar Association, any group of lawyers or, indeed, any individual lawyer to the powers-that-be about the prevailing deplorable conditions in the building.

I am not surprised that lawyers are afraid to complain. The highest levels of government must be involved. Barbados is a small place, and in small places there is always a danger of victimization.

What good would a complaint do?  The money has already been spent.

The good news is that if the new building is so inhospitable, lawyers may try to minimize the time they spend there!
